Therapy, Skill Development, Wellness Management, and Psycho-Education

The Flight Program is FLYY’s commitment to serving youth and young adults in Madison, Dane County, and surrounding counties.

Flight aims to help participants realize their full potential by providing individualized support and services specifically designed for their needs. Our community care program consists of two services:

1.) Psychosocial Rehabilitation: (skill development, wellness management, and psycho-education)

2.) Therapy for Individuals & Families

Psychosocial Rehabilitation

Flight’s Psychosocial Rehabilitation (PR) services is a hybrid therapeutic mentoring, skill development and helping participants manage their mental health diagnoses. It marries the goals and skills of a therapeutic treatment protocol with the bonding, coaching, guiding, and supporting strategies used in mentoring. A Skills Coach is assigned to provide individual programming that will empower youth and young adults by working with their strengths. Skills coaches work together with the youth’s team to provide specialized individual support. Psychosocial Rehab (PR) is a goal driven service and each participant and their support team decide on three goals to help build the participant’s resilience for life. Some of these goals include:

Together, the participant and Coach work on learning:

  • New coping skills
  • Emotional regulation
  • Problem solving
  • Social skills
  • Communication tools
  • Distress tolerance
  • Accessing community resources

In addition to the list above, Skills Coaches can help older teens and young adults with challenges such as:

  • Independent living
  • Maintaining employment
  • Developing coping skills
  • Substance use and abuse
  • Working through a variety of obstacles and challenges in their lives

Psychosocial Rehabilitation is not mentoring, although mentoring activities may be included in the treatment strategy. It is a very measured and strategic intervention model—one that works particularly well within a multicultural framework. The nature of PR demands the maintenance of a very close working relationship between skills coach, client, and parent or caregiver. In PR, the location and process of intervention must be directly related to the advancement of a treatment goal. This program is solely a Comprehensive Community Service (CCS) Program and is available in Dane, Sauk, Columbia, and Richland counties.
